EU CyberNet Summer School

Practical training for the EU CyberNet Expert Pool members.

The number of experts in the EU CyberNet Expert Pool is increasing, but so is the number of mission requests for evaluations, analyses or trainings. The aim of the Summer School is to show appreciation and to invest in good experts so that they are also consistently high quality trainers.

EU CyberNet Summer School is a 2-3-day in-person training, consisting of blocks of theoretical and practical sessions. The training that was initiated in 2022 to enable experts from the Pool to update the skills and prepare new potential trainers.

In 2022, the aim of the training was to identify experts with a technical background who are considering stepping up their role as trainers in the coming years and to improve the skills of potential trainers who can successfully communicate with their audience to achieve desired learning objectives.

In 2023, the aim of the training was to encourage and enable members of the expert community to participate in exercise-themed missions. The purpose of the Summer School was to teach the experts the foundations of designing and executing cybersecurity exercises by using a train-the-trainer approach, who would be able to transfer their knowledge during future EUCN missions.

In 2024, the aim of the training was to enable members of the expert community to learn more about cyber-securing critical infrastructure sectors through the lens of  maritime cybersecurity. The purpose was to increase awareness of threats to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and to recognise cyber intrusions into the maritime critical infrastructure; understanding of the best practices for developing and implementing cybersecurity framework in maritime domain; and the ability to identify security gaps and exploitation points to prevent the infiltration of computer systems of maritime sector infrastructure.

In 2025, the aim of the training is to train EU CyberNet Expert Pool members on navigating disinformation and cyber attacks in the AI era. The goal is to advance knowledge and skills of the participants on the current trends as well as mitigation strategies to addressing disinformation in cyber crisis management, particularly in the age of AI.
