Road to International Cyber Capacity Building: Marking 5 Years of EU CyberNet

As September 2024 marks five years of the EU CyberNet project, it is time to reflect on the journey defined by collaboration and commitment to strengthen global cybersecurity. Over the past five years, EU CyberNet has grown from an initiative into a key pillar of European cyber capacity building community connecting cybersecurity experts, institutions and governments globally.

EU CyberNet was launched in 2019 to enhance the global impact, coordination and coherence of EU’s external efforts in cyber capacity building. The EU-funded project aims at bolstering and reinforcing the EU’s ability to offer its expertise and resources to be strategically deployed for providing technical assistance to partner countries and enhancing their cybersecurity resilience.

Since 2019, 200+ EU CyberNet’s actions, ranging from capacity-building workshops to advanced cybersecurity trainings and conferences and specialised technical assistance, have engaged and reached to more than 60.000 people from 93 countries online and in-person from the EU, Americas, Africa and Asia to create a safer digital environment. EU CyberNet has attracted more than 450 cybersecurity professionals from 66 countries into its Expert Pool and more than 100 organisations from 26 European countries as the Stakeholders to foster a network to address the evolving challenges of the digital world.

One of our core missions has been to bridge the capacity gaps by empowering nations with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect their digital infrastructures. By facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration, we have helped to build communities that are more aware of cybersecurity risks and resilient to emerging cyber threats.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are more committed than ever to our mission and look forward to working together in creating a safer and more secure digital space. The future of EU CyberNet will focus on expanding our geographical reach, fostering our partnerships, and continuing to adapt to the rapidly changing cybersecurity landscape.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners, stakeholders, and the cybersecurity community for their ongoing support and collaboration.
