Operational Technology and Cloud Security Training in Bangkok: Day 1 Recap

The first day of the operational technology security and cloud security for government agencies in ASEAN countries focused on strengthening operational readiness, cross-sectoral understanding and building more resilient critical infrastructure.

Drawing from the ENISA Threat Landscape 2025 report, participants examined the evolving cyber threat landscape affecting specifically the energy and communications sector. Following discussions focused on current and emerging threats to critical infrastructure with particular attention to the growing convergence and security differences between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) environments, including ICS and SCADA systems and different industrial protocols. Participants explored secure OT network architectures, incident response and resilience as well as the role of key tools and technologies in protecting industrial systems.

Sessions offered introduction to different international standards, including EU NIS2 directive, and discussed policy responses aimed at raising baseline security requirements for industrial products and services. Speakers also presented emerging applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in threat detection and incident management.

As the training agenda is tailored for practical experience, participants engaged in live demonstration of cyberattack on a critical infrastructure followed by hands-on group work focused on designing a secure OT architecture.

Training was opened by the EU CyberNet Director Liina Areng, Head of FPI Regional Team of the EU Delegation to Thailand Andreas Roettger and Sirinate Rugvong from National Cyber Security Agency of Thailand (NCSA).

Training is led by the EU CyberNet experts Aldolfo Caldeira from Portugal, Radoslaw Gnat from Poland and Roman Konicek from the Czech Republic. Training will be provided to participants from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Timor-Leste and Thailand.

Training is delivered in collaboration between the European Union (facilitated by the EU Delegation to Japan and the EU Delegation to Thailand and implemented by the EU-funded project EU CyberNet), the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), the National Cyber Security Agency of Thailand (NCSA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
