EU CyberNet Winter School 2026 Concludes in Helsinki: Building Practical Communication Skills for Cyber Crises

The first EU CyberNet Winter School 2026 concluded today after three days of intensive learning on managing communication in crises and addressing challenges in the age of artificial intelligence to improve skills of EU CyberNet Expert Pool members.

The first day introduced the foundations of strategic communication, covering both institutional and individual approaches and emphasising how complex technical issues can be translated into clear strategic messages. Participants trained their presentation skills with video training exercises by applying learnt communication techniques and receiving peer feedback to their presence and messaging skills.

Focus shifted to communicating under pressure during the second day. Participants refined their presentation skills in low-information and fast-paced environments as well as explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in communication, including practical tools and techniques. A dedicated crisis communication session covered procedures and coordination during cyber crises. Instructors explained strategic principles that support coordinated and credible messaging during crises. Day concluded with a cyber range exercise that simulated real-world crisis scenario, allowing participants to put theory into practice and experience how communications’ decisions impact crisis management, coordination and public trust.

Final day emphasised presenting with confidence: how technical preparation, audience engagement, message construction and presence awareness form strong basis for confident presentation. Participants delivered short presentations, which provided an opportunity to apply lessons learned throughout three days and reflect on the improvement.

The first EU CyberNet Winter School 2026 demonstrated the importance of preparation, adaptability and practical skills in managing crisis communication. By combining Interactive sessions, hands-on exercises and real world case studies, the programme supported participants in strengthening their ability to communicate clearly, confidently and strategically, both in routine and in high-pressure environments.
