EU CyberNet to Organise a Cyber Diplomacy Training in Sri Lanka

Eu CyberNet, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka and the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, organises a three-day cyber diplomacy training in Colombo, Sri Lanka this weekend.

The training, funded by the EU aims to equip participants from Sri Lanka’s government agencies and institutions with the necessary knowledge and skills to actively engage in international cyber diplomacy negotiations and processes. By fostering a deeper understanding of cyber diplomacy issues, participants will learn how cyber issues link to wider international relations and improve their skills on developing and supporting national cyber diplomacy capacities at a national level.

The training, led by the EU CyberNet experts Pedro Latoeiro and Zahid Jamil will cover a range of topical matters, including:

  • Geopolitics of cyberspace: understanding how digital technologies impact geopolitics and cyber affairs.
  • Cyber warfare: examining the evolving nature of conflicts in cyberspace.
  • Cybercrime ecosystem: understanding threat landscape and addressing the challenges posed by cybercriminals.
  • Cyber diplomacy: enhancing diplomatic engagement in cyber-related international discussions and building cyber diplomacy capacity.
  • National framework for cyber governance and national security: strengthening national cyber resilience and security strategies as well as facilitating dialogue between national cybersecurity experts and diplomatic community.
  • Safeguarding democracy in cyberspace: protecting democratic institutions from cyber threats.

EU CyberNet has been building global cyber capacity since 2019 by fostering knowledge exchange and transfer, strengthening institutional capabilities and enhancing international cybersecurity cooperation. This training marks the beginning of deeper engagement with the Indo-Pacific region. By supporting Sri Lanka in navigating cyber diplomacy and governance, and equipping national stakeholders with necessary expertise, EU CyberNet and Sri Lanka contribute to a regional cyber resilience.
