EU CyberNet Summer School to Focus on Navigating Disinformation and Cyber Attacks in the AI Era

The 4th EU CyberNet Summer School, titled “Cyber Crisis Management: Navigating Disinformation and Cyber Attacks in the AI Era” brings more than 40 trainees from EU CyberNet Expert Pool for three days to Berlin, Germany.

“EU CyberNet is looking forward to organising the annual Summer School in Berlin. Its 4th edition will once again provide a platform for our experts’ continuous learning and readiness in a fast-evolving threat environment. This year, we turn our focus to one of the most complex and pressing challenges cybersecurity professional face: navigating the multilayered intersection of disinformation and artificial intelligence with cyber crisis management. As AI continues to reshape how disinformation is created and spread, eroding trust in institutions and overwhelming crisis managers, we aim to deepen our participants’ understanding of this evolving landscape and sharpen their practical skills to meet these challenges.” – Liina Areng, Director of EU CyberNet.

“Germany is honored to host the 4th iteration of the EU CyberNet Summer School at our premises in Berlin this year. We are thrilled to bring together a wide range of cyber experts to discuss the impact of disinformation on cyber-attacks and ever-evolving threat landscape. With AI development and innovation gearing up speed, it is more important than ever to not think in silos but to have the ability to connect the dots between AI, cyber and disinformation. This summer school could therefore not come at a timelier moment!” – Felix Kroll, Head of Cyber Coordination Staff, German Federal Foreign Office.

This year, EU CyberNet Summer School welcomes more than 40 experts from EU CyberNet Expert Pool, representing more than 25 countries and a variety of backgrounds within the cybersecurity domain and expertise in dealing with disinformation or cyber crisis management. This year’s iteration is led by EU CyberNet instructors Stephen Campbell and Cosimo Melella along with experts from the German Federal Foreign office, DISARM Foundation and partners.

The programme will equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of disinformation, social media and cybersecurity: exploring how these dynamics shape cyber crisis management in the EU and beyond. Participants will examine how disinformation campaigns, amplified in social media and powered by AI threaten democratic information spaces and undermine institutional trust. Through real-world case studies, practical exercises and analysis of recent trends in foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), the training will enhance participants ability to detect, understand and respond to disinformation during cyber incidents. Participants will be equipped with tools to identify AI-generated content, build rapid response networks and develop strategic communication approaches to counter false narratives. In addition, the programme will explore current AI regulations and ethical considerations in combating disinformation in a digital society.

The EU CyberNet Summer School will take place from 13th to 15th August 2025 in Berlin, Germany and is organized by the EU CyberNet, a EU-funded project implemented by the Estonian Information System Authority, in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office.
