EU CyberNet at the INHOPE Summit 2026: Pathways to Awareness Raising for Young People

EU CyberNet Experts Lead Cecilia Popa attended this week the INHOPE Summit 2026 in Dublin, Ireland. Hosted by Meta, the summit brought together stakeholders around online harm, specifically hotlines working to remove child sexual abuse (CSAM) from the internet and offered platform to discuss how to move towards building coordinated systems for prevention.

“As EU CyberNet focuses also on cybersecurity awareness raising and preventing threats in cyber space, the Summit offered a platform to engage in discussions on sidelines focusing specifically on young people and online harm prevention,” Cecilia Popa noted. She added that the summit made clear how complimentary our work is. “Hotlines, platforms and investigators see how young people are approached, pressured and exploited, while our experts meet young people before any of that happens. What the network sees can sharpen what we teach in our youth initiatives. In return, what we learn from young people in Moldova and soon those from Fiji about what they know, what worries them and who they turn to can add a prevention perspective to the conversation.“

Recent activities by EU CyberNet in this area include CyberGuardians initiative which is a a series of cyber hygiene seminars for Moldovan high school girls. Between 28 March and 8 April 2026, ten volunteer experts delivered ten online modules to 15 girls. The topics included digital identity and privacy, account security, safe browsing, safe interaction with strangers on social media, the risks of sharing explicit content and image-based abuse, cyberbullying and harassment and sextortion. The girls were also trained as peer educators, to carry what they learned back to their schools and communities.

At the end of October, EU CyberNet is taking a similar approach in Fiji. In support of the Ministry of Policing and Communications and following the Cybersecurity and Resilience Convention on 28 October 2026, we will help to develop a special programme for Fijian youth, set to launch early next year.
